Hidden Swimming Gems Near Bodrum – Where the Locals Go

Hidden Swimming Gems Near Bodrum – Where the Locals Go

By Mihane Sadiku – Bodrum Real Estate & Lifestyle Curator

Bodrum is known for its glamorous marinas and famous beach clubs, but ask a local, and they’ll tell you the real magic happens far from the crowds. Tucked into the coves of the Gökova Gulf are quiet beaches, rustic fishing villages, and bays so clear you can see your toes wiggle underwater.

Here’s your insider guide to five stunning swimming spots around Bodrum that locals keep close to their hearts.

1. Mazı – The Pebbled Paradise

Hidden away along a winding pine-scented road, Mazı is made up of small bays like Çakıllıyalı, İnceyalı, and Hurma. The waters are glass-clear, the seabed pebbled, and the vibe utterly unhurried. Here, time feels suspended—you’ll likely share the beach with just a few fishermen and the odd sailboat. It does get busy on the weekends especially during the summer so try and go during weekdays.

Local Tip: Stay for lunch at one of the seaside family-run restaurants. Order fresh fish and watch it grilled right in front of you.

2. Yalıçiftlik – Quiet Sands & Olive Groves

Only 20 minutes from Bodrum yet worlds apart, Yalıçiftlik has soft sands bordered by pine trees and olive orchards. It’s a go-to for Bodrumites escaping the weekend rush.

Local Tip: The small coves nearby, like Çiftlik Cove, are perfect for late afternoon swims followed by a sunset tea at a local café.

3. Çökertme – Sailor’s Rest Stop

On the Gökova Gulf’s curve, Çökertme Bay is famous among sailors but still feels untouched. The water is calm and turquoise, with long stretches ideal for swimming. Pebbly coves nearby, like Çökertme Beach II, are completely undeveloped—bring your own snacks and shade.

Local Tip: Arrive early before the gulets drop anchor for lunch. Morning light makes the sea look like liquid glass.

Local Tip: Arrive in the early morning for glassy water before the wind picks up, then grab breakfast at a riverside café where ducks float past your table.
